DIRECTOR-LED FILMS
Brand Film Production UK
Real people, real places and a story worth watching.
MJ Films creates story-led brand films for businesses and organisations that want people to understand who they are, what they do and why it matters. We combine interviews or natural conversation with purposeful cinematography, genuine workplaces, customers, products, services, music and carefully planned visual storytelling.
A brand film does not have to feel like a standard corporate video. We find the strongest story inside the business, decide who should tell it and build the filming around the people, places and details that make it believable.
A brand film can combine
Founder or customer voices
Real people who give the story credibility.
Workplace and product footage
Show the business rather than simply describe it.
Planned scenes, music and voice-over
Added where they make the story clearer or more memorable.
HOW TO COMMISSION A BRAND FILM
START WITH THE STORY
Find the story before deciding what to film
You do not need to arrive with a script.
Tell us what the organisation does, who needs to understand it and what you want viewers to remember. We can help identify the people, situations and visual material that will carry the story.
Sometimes the strongest film is built around one founder or customer. Sometimes it needs several voices, more than one location and carefully planned observational footage. The structure follows the story rather than forcing every business into the same interview-and-B-roll template.
Define the audience first
Who needs to watch the film, what do they already know and what should they understand or feel by the end? That decision affects the people we film, the tone and the amount of explanation the story needs.
Find the strongest human story
The best contributor is not always the most senior person. A founder, customer, member of staff, patient, student or user of the service may give the film the detail and credibility that makes people keep watching.
Show the proof as well as saying it
If the film says the organisation is skilled, useful, welcoming or different, the pictures should help prove it. We plan real activity, locations, products, processes and details that support the spoken story.
Decide how natural or controlled it should feel
Some brand films are largely documentary-led. Others use more controlled lighting, planned movement, voice-over or staged moments. We choose the level of production that suits the brand rather than making every film look the same.
Plan the main film and shorter versions together
Tell us where the film will appear. We can plan a main landscape film alongside shorter social edits, vertical versions, captions, clean masters or website material where those outputs have a clear use. For paid Facebook campaigns, see our Facebook video ad production guide, including 1:1 square delivery and short campaign edits.
Need a different route? If the idea is better told with actors, scripted dialogue, humour, characters or a designed scene, move into our Commercial Video Production service.

Real people and real environments, shaped into a clear story
The examples below show the documentary-led side of MJ Films: genuine contributors and locations, planned and edited so the finished piece feels purposeful rather than like a collection of corporate footage.

FROM STORY TO FINISHED FILM
A clear production process without making the film feel manufactured
The planning happens before the camera arrives, so filming can stay natural. We know the story we are looking for, the people who can tell it and the pictures needed to support it.
01 — Story & structure
Work out the audience, message, contributors and the real situations that can carry the film. Interviews, voice-over or a looser documentary structure are chosen at this stage.
02 — Pre-production
Plan contributors, questions, locations, schedules, permissions, shot priorities and any additional crew, lighting, drone or specialist production the story needs.
03 — Filming
Guide people so they sound like themselves, while capturing the workplace, product, service and details that make the spoken story believable on screen.
04 — Edit & versions
Build the story from the strongest material, then add music, graphics, captions, colour and the agreed website or social versions.
TWO DIFFERENT STORYTELLING ROUTES
Use real people when the truth is the story. Script it when the idea needs more control.
Both routes can look cinematic. The difference is where the story comes from and how tightly it needs to be controlled.
BRAND FILM
Built from the real business
Choose this route when founders, customers, staff, places, products or real experiences are the strongest reason to believe the message.
- Real contributors and workplaces
- Natural interviews or conversation
- Observational and planned B-roll
- Usually 60 seconds to three minutes
- Website, presentations, campaigns and social
NARRATIVE ADVERT
Built around a scripted idea
Choose this route when actors, models, dialogue, humour, characters, a visual gag or a designed scene can communicate the message more memorably than a documentary approach.
- Concept and script development
- Actors or models where required
- Planned locations, props and wardrobe
- 10-, 15-, 30- and 60-second formats
- TV, cinema, paid social and online campaigns
PAID SOCIAL
Planning a Facebook video advert?
Paid social usually needs a tighter structure than the main brand film. A 30-second narrative advert may use around 16 planned shots, with the key action composed for the 1:1 square frame from the start rather than simply cropping a landscape edit afterwards.

BUDGET & PRODUCTION SCALE
Brand film production from £1,500
Professional brand film production with MJ Films typically starts from £1,500. The final budget depends on the number of filming days, locations, contributors, crew and finished versions.
A focused story filmed in one place can stay compact. A larger film may need more locations, additional production support, drone work, specialist lighting, photography, voice-over, animation or several campaign edits.
The quote is based on what the story actually requires rather than the finished running time alone.
What can a smaller brand film include?
A strong one-location film can combine one or two contributors, carefully planned interviews, natural workplace footage, music, colour grading, graphics and one or more agreed cutdowns.
What usually makes the budget increase?
Extra filming days, several locations, more contributors, travel, a larger crew, controlled lighting, drone work, photography, voice-over, animation and a larger set of final versions all add production time.
Can you shape the film around a set budget?
Yes. We can separate the essential story from optional production choices and decide where the money will make the biggest difference on screen before filming begins.
Useful starting information
Send the audience, filming location, preferred dates, deadline, likely contributors and where the film will be used. A finished script is not required.
BRAND FILM FAQ
Common questions before commissioning a brand film
What should a brand film include?
A strong brand film usually combines the right people with visual proof: interviews or natural conversation, real activity, products or services in use, locations, details, music and clear brand messaging. Voice-over, graphics, drone footage and testimonials can be added where they help the story.
How long should a brand film be?
Most brand films sit somewhere between 60 seconds and three minutes. The right length depends on the story, the audience and where the film will live. Shorter campaign and social versions can be planned from the same production.
Do contributors need to learn a script?
Usually not. For real people, we normally work from questions, themes and key points rather than asking somebody to memorise lines. Guidance is part of the process, but the aim is to keep the delivery natural.
What should people wear on camera?
Plain clothing usually works well. Avoid distracting third-party logos and bring a couple of options where practical so we can choose colours that work with the location, lighting and background.
Can you film customers as well as staff?
Yes. Customers, service users, patients, students, founders, staff and other contributors can all form part of a brand story where permissions and the production context allow it.
Can you create social edits from the same shoot?
Yes. If shorter or vertical versions matter, tell us before filming. We can plan the interview material and visual coverage so the cutdowns have their own structure rather than feeling like random extracts.
Can a brand film include scripted scenes?
Yes, in moderation. A planned scene or sequence can sit inside a wider real-world brand story. If actors, scripted dialogue or designed scenes become the main creative device, our Commercial Video Production service is usually the better fit.
What is the difference between a brand film and a commercial?
A brand film usually has more time to build understanding through real people, place and purpose. A commercial is generally shorter and built around a tightly controlled advertising idea. If the message needs actors, humour, characters or a scripted payoff, see our Commercial Video Production service.
