EDITING & POST-PRODUCTION

PLANNED AROUND THE BRIEF

video editing

Professional video editing from rushes to final master

Some projects arrive with a script, timecodes and a precise list of changes. Others arrive as hours of interviews, b-roll and supporting footage that need to be shaped into a coherent story. We can work either way.

MJ Films edits corporate interviews, case studies, brand films, event content, training films, documentaries, campaigns and social content. Projects can begin from scratch or be picked up part-way through where the existing files and timeline allow it.

Post-production can be handled remotely, as additional capacity for another production company, or directly with an agency under a white-label arrangement.

Video post-production services

Use MJ Films for a complete edit or for a specific stage of the finishing process.

Video editing and story structure

Assembly edits, interview shaping, multicamera cutting, pacing, b-roll placement and complete programme construction from supplied footage.

Colour grading and finishing

Colour correction, shot matching and grading to give mixed footage a consistent visual finish before delivery.

Sound and audio post

Dialogue clean-up, sound mixing, music, sound design and integration of voiceover or ADR where required.

Versions, captions and final delivery

Master files, shorter edits, social versions, vertical formats, captions and platform-specific exports can be created from the approved main edit.

Flexible post-production support

Bring in MJ Films for a complete project, an overloaded edit schedule or a job that needs an experienced editor to take over.

Remote post-production

Rushes, graphics, scripts and reference material can be transferred for remote editing. Review copies are supplied for feedback and the agreed changes are incorporated before finishing and delivery.

Taking over an existing edit

An existing project can often be picked up part-way through. The first step is to check the project files, media, software version, fonts, graphics and any third-party assets so there is a clear handover.

White-label agency editing

MJ Films can work behind the scenes for agencies and production companies, following an existing brief, brand system and client feedback process without needing MJ Films branding in the finished work.

Freelance editing capacity

Extra editing capacity can be added when an in-house team or production company has more work than available editors. The scope can be a complete edit, a batch of versions or a defined part of the post-production workflow.

Onsite mobile video editing with client stakeholders

Onsite mobile editing

Some projects are easier to finish with the right people in the room. MJ Films can edit onsite alongside technical consultants, marketing teams or other stakeholders, allowing key decisions to be made while the relevant people are available.

This works particularly well when terminology, compliance, technical accuracy or messaging needs close attention. Instead of sending repeated review links backwards and forwards, sections can be discussed and adjusted during the session.

The setup is portable and intended for practical collaborative editing in offices, boardrooms and suitable production spaces.

A clear post-production process

1. Send the footage and brief

Share the rushes, script, brand assets, reference films, music information and any existing project files. If there is no formal edit brief, the objective and audience can be established first.

2. Organise and review the material

Footage is checked and organised before the edit begins. Interviews, b-roll and other assets are reviewed so the strongest material can be identified.

3. Build the first edit

The programme is assembled around the required message, structure and duration. Depending on the project, this may follow exact timecodes or involve finding the story within unscripted material.

4. Review and revisions

A review version is supplied for feedback. Comments can be consolidated into agreed revision rounds so changes are clear and efficient.

5. Colour, sound and finishing

Once the structure is approved, the film is refined with colour work, audio mixing, graphics, captions and any agreed finishing.

6. Masters and additional versions

Approved masters are exported in the required formats, with shorter, vertical or platform-specific versions produced where included in the brief.

Video post-production FAQs

Practical answers about handing over footage, remote editing, revisions and final delivery.

Can you edit footage filmed by another company?

Yes. MJ Films can edit rushes supplied by another crew, production company, agency or internal team. It helps to include the brief, brand assets, scripts and any notes that explain how the footage was intended to be used.

Can you take over a project that has already been started?

Often, yes. The project files and media need to be checked first so software versions, fonts, plug-ins, graphics and missing assets can be identified before work continues.

How do I send large video files?

The transfer method depends on the amount of footage and how quickly the project needs to begin. Large rushes can be supplied digitally or on a physical drive where that is more practical.

Can the editing be handled remotely?

Yes. Most post-production work can be completed remotely. Review copies are supplied for feedback, with agreed comments applied before the final master is prepared.

Can you work from timecodes or an edit brief?

Yes. A detailed edit brief, script or list of timecodes can be followed closely. If the material is unscripted, MJ Films can instead shape the structure from the interviews and supporting footage.

Do you provide colour grading and sound mixing?

Yes. Colour correction, grading, dialogue clean-up, sound mixing, music and sound design can be included where required by the project.

Can you create social and vertical versions from the main edit?

Yes. Once the main film is approved, shorter cuts, square or vertical versions, captions and alternative durations can be produced for the required channels.

Can you work white-label for an agency or production company?

Yes. MJ Films can provide editing support behind the scenes and work within your existing client relationship, brand system and approval process.

Can you edit onsite with our team?

Yes. Onsite mobile editing can be arranged when it is useful to have technical specialists, consultants or decision-makers present during the edit.

What do you need to quote for an editing project?

Useful information includes the amount and type of footage, target duration, number of outputs, deadline, whether a script or brief already exists, and what graphics, captions, colour or audio work is required.
