CUSTOMER TESTIMONIAL VIDEO PRODUCTION
Testimonial Video Production UK
Let your customers explain why people should choose you
A strong testimonial gives prospective customers something your own marketing cannot manufacture: a real person describing what it was like to work with you, why they chose you and what changed afterwards.
MJ Films produces customer testimonial films across the UK, combining relaxed, well-directed interviews with relevant workplace or project footage. The result can be a focused testimonial, a fuller customer success story, or a bank of customer-led content for websites, sales teams, LinkedIn and campaigns.

✓ Natural, guided interviews
✓ Questions shaped around the story

CUSTOMER TESTIMONIAL VIDEO PRODUCTION
LET YOUR CUSTOMERS EXPLAIN WHY PEOPLE SHOULD CHOOSE YOU
WHAT WE’VE LEARNED FILMING TESTIMONIALS
The strongest testimonial usually comes from the right conditions, not a perfect script
Choose somebody specific
A clear, relevant story usually beats a prestigious name with little detail.
Do not rush the contributor
A few minutes to settle can improve the whole interview.
Ask for detail, not praise
Specific examples are far more convincing than “they were great”.
Show the evidence
Film the workplace, project or product the customer is actually describing.
WHY CUSTOMER TESTIMONIALS WORK
Your customers can say what your marketing cannot
✓ Borrowed credibility: a real customer puts their own name, face and experience behind the story.
In our experience, the most convincing testimonials are rarely the most polished ones. They are the ones where the contributor gives specific detail in their own words.
✓ Buyer relevance: the right contributor helps prospective customers recognise a familiar problem, decision or organisation.
✓ Proof with context: the interview is supported by the workplace, project, people or product being discussed.
✓ Useful beyond one page: testimonial content can support marketing video campaigns, sales conversations and customer acquisition.
FROM ENDORSEMENT TO CUSTOMER STORY
A good testimonial is more than a list of compliments
“They were brilliant” is pleasant to hear, but it tells the next customer very little. We have found that specific detail is far more useful than a string of compliments. A stronger testimonial has a beginning, middle and end: what was happening before, what mattered when making the decision, what the experience was like and what changed afterwards.
If the story needs more depth, multiple contributors or more visual evidence of a completed project, it can develop into case study video production.
01
The challenge
What was happening before? What problem, pressure or need made the customer start looking for a solution?
02
The choice
What mattered when they compared options, and why did they decide to work with your organisation?
03
The experience
What was the process actually like? This is where useful detail often replaces vague praise.
04
The result
What changed afterwards? Specific outcomes and examples give the film something concrete to land on.
CONVERSATION, NOT PERFORMANCE
We ask the questions. Your customer gives the answers.
Most testimonial contributors are customers, managers or specialists, not presenters. They should not need to learn lines or perform somebody else’s marketing copy. We find that people usually become more useful on camera once they stop trying to sound like a presenter.
✓ Agree themes rather than write a speech. We shape the question areas with you, but the words remain the customer’s.
✓ Make answers work without hearing the question. Complete answers give the editor far more flexibility.
✓ Give nervous contributors time to settle. In our experience, a few minutes of ordinary conversation before the important questions can make a noticeable difference. Restarts and rephrasing are normal.
✓ Use autocue only when exact wording is genuinely required. For the testimonial itself, natural answers usually feel more believable.

LOOK AFTER THE CONTRIBUTOR
Your customer’s experience of the shoot matters
You may be asking a valuable client to give up part of their working day and speak publicly about your organisation. The production should make that easy, not turn it into an ordeal.
We keep the crew proportionate, explain what will happen, prepare the interview efficiently and avoid unnecessary waiting around. One thing we have learned is that the contributor picks up on the mood behind the camera. A calm, organised setup makes it much easier for them to give thoughtful, useful answers.
SHOW THE EVIDENCE
Show what the customer is talking about
We prefer to show the thing being talked about whenever the location allows it. If the customer is describing a completed project, show the project. If they are talking about service, film the interaction. If the result depends on a product, workplace or process, capture enough detail for the audience to understand it. The setting can do part of the storytelling before the contributor has finished the sentence.
Supporting material gives the edit breathing room too. It can cover shortened answers, remove awkward joins and keep the film visually active without resorting to unrelated stock footage.
For projects where interview and supporting footage need to be planned as one production day, see our interview and b-roll filming service. A small set of stills can also be captured during the visit, or a dedicated professional photography package can run alongside the video production.
CHOOSE THE RIGHT CUSTOMER
The contributor matters more than the camera
The best testimonial contributor is not automatically the biggest client or the person with the grandest job title. In our experience, relevance and clarity matter more than prestige. The strongest contributor is somebody who can describe a specific experience clearly and represents the kind of customer you want more of.
01
Choose relevance over prestige
A customer similar to the audience you want to win can be more persuasive than a famous logo whose circumstances bear little resemblance to theirs.
02
Look for specific detail
Useful contributors can explain what happened, what mattered and what changed. Specific examples make the edit more credible than a string of adjectives.
03
Use the customer’s environment
Filming at the location can show the context behind the story and produce stronger supporting footage than moving everybody into a generic meeting room.
04
Consider several voices
A customer, project lead and end user can each explain a different part of the experience. Those perspectives should complement rather than repeat one another.
05
Keep the story recent
A recent, specific experience is usually easier for somebody to explain clearly than asking them to reconstruct a vague success from years ago.
SELECTED TESTIMONIAL WORK
Customer and interview-led films
Different customers need different interview styles. We have learned not to force every testimonial into the same setup. The examples below use controlled interviews, natural conversations and supporting footage, with the production shaped around the person, location and final use.
ONE CUSTOMER VISIT
More than one useful film
We find it is worth deciding the outputs before filming starts. A testimonial shoot does not have to end as one two-minute video. If the intended channels are agreed in advance, the interview and supporting footage can be recorded with several useful versions in mind.
The same customer story can support your website, proposals, sales follow-up, LinkedIn, paid campaigns and a wider brand film production.
PLAN THE OUTPUTS BEFORE FILMING
Use one customer story in several places
✓ Main testimonial film — a focused customer story for your website, case-study page, proposal or sales presentation.
✓ Short customer clips — individual answers or proof points for LinkedIn, email, paid media and sales follow-up.
✓ Reusable b-roll — workplace, project and product footage that can support future edits as well as the testimonial itself.
✓ Stills and campaign assets — selected photography, captions, clean masters and alternative formats where useful.
If your agency or in-house editor is cutting the project, we can provide organised raw footage for your own editor. If you want the complete project taken through post, our post-production and video editing service can cover story assembly, colour, sound, graphics, captions and final versions.
HOW THE PRODUCTION WORKS
From customer introduction to finished film
01
Choose the story
Agree which customer experience is worth telling, who the audience is and where the finished content will be used.
02
Shape the questions
Build themes around the challenge, decision, experience and result, while leaving room for natural follow-up questions.
03
Film the interview and evidence
Record the conversation, then capture the location, people, product or project footage needed to support what the customer has said.
04
Edit for each use
Shape the strongest story first, then create agreed shorter versions, captions, graphics, clean masters or supporting assets.

TESTIMONIAL VIDEO FAQ
Questions clients ask before putting a customer on camera
Do our customers need to learn a script?
No. For most testimonials, we agree the themes and questions in advance and then film a natural guided conversation. The customer answers in their own words, which usually sounds more credible than asking them to memorise marketing copy. Autocue remains available for separate scripted statements where exact wording matters.
What if our customer is nervous about being filmed?
That is extremely common. In our experience, even confident people can become self-conscious once the lights, microphones and cameras are pointed at them. We explain the setup, keep the conversation relaxed and use the first few questions to help them settle before moving into the most important parts of the story.
What questions will you ask them?
The question plan is shaped around the customer story and your audience. Typical themes include what was happening before, why they chose you, what the process was like, what stood out and what changed afterwards. We can develop the questions with your team before filming and use follow-ups when an answer reveals something worth exploring.
How many customer testimonials can we film in one day?
It depends on the location, setup changes and how much supporting footage each story needs. We have found that several focused interviews can be covered efficiently when contributors are in the same place and the schedule is prepared properly. If each customer is at a different site, or every story needs substantial B-roll, the production plan should allow more time rather than rushing the interviews.
What is the difference between a testimonial and a case study video?
A testimonial is usually a shorter customer endorsement focused on trust and experience. A case study video normally tells a fuller project story: the challenge, the work, the solution and the result, often with more supporting footage or contributors. The same filming day can sometimes provide material for both.
Can one interview become shorter social and sales clips?
Yes. If those outputs are planned before filming, one customer conversation can supply a main testimonial plus shorter extracts for LinkedIn, email, sales follow-up, paid campaigns or presentations. Relevant b-roll, captions, clean masters and stills can also be included where useful.
