PLAN AROUND THE OPERATION
AEROSPACE · RAIL · ENGINEERING · MANUFACTURING
Film technical work accurately without disrupting the operation
Derby’s engineering and manufacturing sites can be complex places to film. Access, controlled areas, technical contacts, non-repeatable processes, noise and commercially sensitive information all need to be considered before the camera starts rolling.
Agree inductions, controlled areas and technical contacts. Aerospace, rail and engineering sites can require advance visitor information, PPE, escorts and approval for specific areas.
Build the shot list around processes that cannot be repeated. Testing, assembly, inspection and vehicle or component movement may happen once within a narrow window.
Keep drawings, screens and restricted work out of frame. The filming plan identifies exclusions so useful footage can be captured without exposing protected material.
Record intelligible interviews near industrial activity. Machinery, extraction, reverberant workshops and vehicle movement can make speech difficult to record, so quieter positions, natural pauses and microphone options are assessed.
Show engineering scale and precision together. Wide views establish the facility and workflow; close detail shows tolerances, components, tools, inspection and specialist hands at work.
VIDEO PRODUCTION SERVICES IN DERBY & DERBYSHIRE
Translate technical depth into something the audience can understand
Interviews provide the explanation; carefully sequenced process footage provides the proof.
01
Explain engineering capability
Combine technical interviews with facilities, teams and processes through corporate video production shaped for industrial audiences.
02
Document a project or result
Use case study production to connect the brief, engineering response and finished outcome without overstating the evidence.
03
Train around real equipment
Create training and induction content around genuine procedures, subject experts, equipment and safe working practices.
04
Capture rail, aerospace & factory activity
Plan industrial filming around access, production windows and the technical stages the audience needs to see.
Need a focused setup? Book a camera operator in Derby for interviews and targeted coverage, or hire a film crew when the locations, activity or schedule need more people.
Film the process when the process is the evidence
For an engineering audience, generic workshop footage is rarely enough. The useful material shows the correct stage, component, inspection, movement or decision while an engineer or project lead explains why it matters. Coverage is prepared with someone who understands the operation, particularly when a process is difficult or impossible to repeat.
TWO PRACTICAL WAYS TO WORK
Complete production or focused filming support
Complete production can include technical planning, contributor preparation, filming, editing, graphics and delivery for company films, project case studies, recruitment, inductions and training.
Focused filming support gives production teams a crew for engineering interviews, controlled process footage or organised rushes that fit an established post-production workflow.

VIDEO PRODUCTION DERBY FAQ
Booking, pricing and practical production questions
Lead time, booking payments, balance dates, travel, date changes, fixed quotes and the practical realities of one-off processes and noisy factories.
How much notice do you need for a filming day?
More notice gives the best choice of dates, particularly when the production needs several crew members, specialist equipment, multiple locations or complex site access. Short-notice shoots may be possible depending on availability, so send the preferred date and brief as soon as you can.
How do I secure a filming date?
A 50% payment secures the booking and filming date once the scope and quotation have been agreed. Until that payment is received, the date cannot be treated as confirmed.
When is the remaining balance due?
The remaining 50% is due one week before filming. This is the standard MJ Films payment schedule: 50% to secure the booking and the remaining 50% one week before the filming date.
Are travel and accommodation included in the quote?
Yes. Any travel and accommodation required for the agreed production are included in the quoted total, so you know the full production cost before booking.
What happens if our filming date needs to change?
Tell us as early as possible and we will check suitable replacement dates. Any effect on the booking depends on the notice given and on crew, travel, accommodation, venues or suppliers already committed, so we explain the position against the agreed terms before the date is moved.
Do you quote a fixed project price or charge by the hour or day?
For a defined production, we normally provide a fixed quoted total based on the agreed planning, crew, filming, equipment, travel, accommodation, editing and deliverables. Focused filming-only support may be scoped by a half day or day, but the quotation still states the agreed cost before booking rather than leaving the project as an open-ended hourly bill.
What if an engineering or manufacturing process can only happen once?
We identify the non-repeatable stage before filming, agree the essential wide and detailed shots, prepare camera positions and make sure the relevant operators know when coverage starts. If the moment needs more than one simultaneous angle, that requirement is included in the crew and equipment plan.
How do you record clean interviews in a noisy Derby factory?
We assess the real sound conditions rather than relying on the room's appearance. Options can include a quieter nearby area, filming during an existing break, close microphones, acoustic control and capturing the machinery separately for the edit.
