MJ FILMS B2B customer story video agency

Case Study Video Production

Case study video production for businesses, agencies and organisations across the UK. We film customer testimonial videos, project case studies and customer stories built around real people, real work and clear outcomes.

Use them on websites, presentations, bids, sales campaigns and social channels when a real customer or completed project can explain the value more convincingly than a sales claim.

CASE STUDY PLANNING

FIND THE EVIDENCE

Build the film around what changed, not just what was delivered

A housing case study filmed with a resident in their new home, combining their experience with supporting footage of the property.

Start with the situation before the work

We have learned that the strongest case studies start before the solution. We establish what the customer, project or organisation was dealing with before the work began so the viewer can understand why the solution mattered and what actually changed afterwards.

Look for specifics rather than praise

We have found that specific examples are far more persuasive than praise. “They were great to work with” is pleasant, but better material explains what improved, what was difficult, what happened differently and what the customer can now do that they could not do before.

Choose somebody who actually experienced it

The most senior person is not always the strongest contributor. In our experience, a project lead, customer, resident, engineer, user or team member who was close to the work can often give more precise and believable answers than somebody chosen mainly because of their job title.

Plan pictures that support the claims

We plan B-roll around what the contributor is actually likely to talk about. If the interview discusses a product, process, building, service or working relationship, the supporting footage should let the viewer see it. That gives the edit evidence and context rather than a collection of unrelated attractive shots.

Keep marketing involved without scripting the customer

We can work closely with the marketing manager on the questions, terminology, key claims and intended audience while still giving the contributor room to answer naturally. We have found that people usually sound more convincing when they understand the subject rather than trying to reproduce approved wording. For more on that approach, see our interview filming service.

WHAT WE’VE LEARNED FILMING CASE STUDIES

The filming day works better when the story is planned around people who may not stay available

We prefer to get the key interview completed while the contributor is definitely free, then capture the supporting evidence around it. Real working days change, so we keep a backup plan for staff, activity and access rather than assuming every promised shot will still be possible later.

BUILD A CREDIBLE STORY

A convincing case study needs more than a good testimonial

The strongest films give the viewer enough context to judge the story for themselves rather than simply asking them to accept a recommendation. That usually means combining the interview with visual evidence of the work, location, product or process being discussed.

Establish the starting point

Give the audience enough background to understand the problem, requirement or opportunity before the project began.

Let the customer describe the difference

Specific experiences in the contributor’s own words are usually more useful than polished claims written on the organisation’s behalf. We often use follow-up questions to get beyond general praise and into the detail that makes the story believable.

Show the work in context

Use relevant footage of the people, place, product or process so the viewer can see what the interview is referring to. See our interview and B-roll filming service for productions where both need to be planned together.

Finish with something concrete

An outcome, measurable improvement, completed result or clear change gives the story a reason to be remembered and shared.

CASE STUDY VIDEO FAQ

Questions clients ask before filming

If your project has unusual access, confidentiality or scheduling requirements, include them in your first enquiry.

Do contributors need to learn a script?

No. We normally use a guided interview so people can answer in their own words. We can provide questions or prompts in advance. In our experience, getting the important interview completed early in the filming day is sensible because contributors can be pulled into meetings or operational work later.

For somebody who is especially nervous, we can simplify the on-camera part by recording a short introduction and closing section, then allowing more complicated or exact wording to be read accurately where necessary. Relevant B-roll can cover those sections in the edit.

Can you film while the business is operating?

Usually, yes. We plan around access, customers, staff, noise and safety requirements, then keep the crew and kit appropriate to the location. We also keep a backup plan because promised activity is not always possible at the exact time expected. On suitable staged productions, an actor in the appropriate uniform can sometimes remove the need to wait for busy operational staff. See our site filming service for live working environments.

Can one shoot create several edits?

Yes. The main film can be supported by shorter extracts, vertical or social versions, subtitled clips and still images where these are agreed in the brief.

How do we keep claims and terminology accurate?

Your team can review factual detail and on-screen information before final delivery. Sensitive material can be excluded or handled under an appropriate confidentiality agreement.

Where do you film case studies?

MJ Films works throughout the UK. Travel, access and the most efficient filming plan are agreed before the shoot.

How much does a case study video cost?

A straightforward complete case study production normally starts from around £1,500. The final cost depends on filming time, locations, contributors, crew and the number of edits required. See our video production pricing for current starting points.

How long does it take to film a case study video?

Many single-location customer testimonial and case study videos can be filmed within a half day or full day. More contributors, several locations or detailed operational B-roll may need longer. Where possible, we arrive early enough to have the interview room, cameras, lighting and sound ready before the contributor arrives. That means their time is spent answering questions rather than waiting for the setup.

A CONCISE PRODUCTION PROCESS

Keep the filming focused and the story useful

A strong case study film does not need over-complication. It needs a clear outcome, the right contributor, relevant footage and an edit shaped around what actually changed.

1

Define the audience

Identify what the viewer needs to understand, trust or remember from the finished story.

2

Prepare contributors

Agree the interview angle, key facts, locations and the supporting scenes worth filming while you are on site. If the first take already works, we often make the second genuinely different in pace or emphasis so the edit has a useful alternative.

3

Film the evidence

Capture the interview, the real environment and the detail that shows what the customer is talking about.

4

Shape the final film

Refine the edit, sound, captions and branding so the finished case study is concise, clear and usable.
